which of the two would you chose? I listen to music with alot of bass, and also will use headphones for dvds. I use an ipod for music and dont own an amp... yet.

Well I never owned the a500's but did own the 240s and can tell you that from your preferences you probably wont like them. To me they were by far the best sub $100 cans out there, however, like all cans, they have their problems. First off, they didn't have enough bass slam, secondly they were a bit dry (not detailed enough). Though I've read the a500's have recessed mids among other issues.

A500: best value closed can around IMHO.
AKG240: semi closed.

That should help make the decision. If not then factor in A500s are not portable at all and are really suitable for using outside with an iPod. Then again A500s with MD33s for portable use would be nice.

I've never heard the A500 [have you commando?], but if the A900 is any indication I think that the K240S would be a better bet for the uses that you listed... unless you need a closed headphone.
