im deciding on which to get to go with my X-fi. I dont need isolation as im using these for home. The open version looks pimp with the grey mesh but the closed one looks cool too. anyone have experience with both and can tell me which sounds better?

Well it depends on what your personal preferences are. Me, I have always preffered open air headphones as I think they give you a more accurate reproduction of sound compared to closed cans. Sice you are going to be using them at home I assume you don't care to much about sound isolation so I would go with the ATH-AD500s as opposed to the ATH-A500s however, if sound attenuation is important to you than go with the A500s or spend a more and get the A900 LTDS
