i am using a 0404, an headphone amp from China, with HD600, K501 and ER4

is it a waste, or going too far, to purchase a DAC costs more than 1000usd?

such as MiniDAC, Stello DA220?

of course DAC is not only for headphones..
i have an active speaker as well ( ESI nEar05)

should i go for this UPGRADE?

If i had the cash i would upgrade, you might want to think of a better set of cans to complement a DAC of that price.

The 0404's DAC is a good one. Have you considered moding it? Might be a cheaper way to go than buying another component.

I use an external DAC (Wadia 12) with mine and notice a large improvement overall. i also link the idea of connecting the DAC optically to avoid any potential power supply contamination from the computer into the rest of your system.
