Hello !

I'd need some advice for wiring my home cinema setup. I currently own an XBox, a JVC DVD player and a Panasonic 16:9 CRT TV. I will soon buy a A/V receiver and a 7.1 speaker setup. The main problem I have at the moment is how to connect all these components together in the best way.

My TV has two SCART inputs and S-Video / Composite on the front. Only one of the SCART inputs supports RGB. I want to connect the DVD and the XBox to the A/V receiver and then let the receiver connect to the TV over SCART. This should fix the problem that I currently have: Either swapping the SCART connectors all the time or having one of the two devices hooked up through the low-quality SCART input.

A/V receivers in my price range (~300EUR) seem to mostly use S-Video. So I'd need a special S-Video cable for my XBox. I ordered a cheap one (~15EUR) and it had an awful picture compared to my SCRAT RGB cable, so I assume I have to buy a more quality one. The only one I could dig up is the Monster one:

Should I go with that one? I assume it has an optical out somewhere?

To connect the DVD to the receiver I was thinking of this cable:

And then finally this one for connecting the S-Video out of the receiver to the TV:

The audio connection Xbox & DVD -> receiver would be accomplished by a digital coax cable (DVD doesn't have optical out) and an optical digital cable for the Xbox. Probably also from Oelbach as they are reasonably priced.

What do you guys think in general about this setup? Would it work well? I mean, can I simply connect the SCART RGB out of my DVD to the S-Video in of my future A/V receiver without any issues ? Will the receiver's S-Video out connect to my TV's SCART RGB or SCART S-Video in with this adapter cable ?

Also, what about going for RGB ("Component" ?) connections everywhere ? I could buy this conector for the XBox:

and then go with these to connect DVD -> receiver and receiver -> TV:

That should give better quality as RGB is in theorie superior to S-Video, right ?

The receiver I'm thinking about getting is the Denon AVR-1905, here:

http://www.denon.de/site/datadir/pdf/pi/AVR-1905.pdf

Would that work well with the setup I'm planning ?

Apologies for the many questions and the German language links. This is my first quality home cinema system and I have yet to learn quite a few things

Thanks for your answers in advance,
Tim
