I recently got my custom tips back from Westone for my IE8's. After the second time, the first set didn't seal as tight as I wanted, I finally got a chance to try them out.
Well, I must say it sounded bad, really bad. The treble was muffled and there was a bad resonance around 5-6khz. Some artist's voices were intolerable. I noticed that the canal on the tip was much more narrow than the diameter of the screen on the IE8 almost 1/3 the size. So I used my Dremel tool and reamed out the canal to slightly larger than the IE8 diameter. Much better. Like night and day. I guess since the IE8's are universal IEMs that Sennheiser tuned the harmonics for their tips only.
