So, it seems like my 2.1 UBL Pro speakers I got few years back with my old Compaq monitor back then (*cough*) have finally gone nuts, as in sometimes the other channel seems to disappear after some time so I have to replug them better... anyhow.

What are good 'n cheap 2.1 speakers (or 5.1, but I don't really care about them)... cheap by them being in the price range of 100 e. Are Creative's any good?

The Cambridge Soundworks make good value computer speakers. Yes, I think they are now (for some time) a part of Creative Co.

I would suggest going for their "classic" speakers - i.e., ones designed prior to becoming a Creative Subsidiary. The new speakers are mores stylish looking but sonically less impressive then the former versions. The "classic" speakers should still retain the "Cambridge Soundworks" model name.

My recommendation would be the "Soundworks" model (designed by original founder, the late Henry Kloss) which is selling at around $70.

2.1 for under $100?

How about the klipsch GMX-2.1? They are onsale at the klipsch.com website for 79$ (149$ retail at circuitcity).

Also, perhaps some logitech Z3 or Z2200/2300 depending on how good you are at searching for deals.

If you can find one on ebay I'd recommend a non-pro videologic sirocco system. Mine sounded better to me than an altec lansing mx5021, a highly rated 2.1 system. Another alternative would be the klipsch promedia 2.1, I've not heard a bad word about it other than it can sound a bit bright and forward sometimes.

Wouldnt I need an amp if I were to use headphones with the av-710?

It's not a requirement, but the AV-710's high quality output has no amp built-into it.
