A review of Labtec Elite 840

Also, I do not think that people should talk about how certain cans sounds without ever hearing them! Talk about worthless opinions! It's one thing if you heard the cans and disgreed with his satements, that's great and useful. But, to disgree just to disgree like many of you are doing is just plain stupid.

Guys, since they are SO cheap now, why don't you get a pair and try them first before you say ANYTHING? Time will tell if I am liar.

Easy there. Not everyone is attacking you. I, for one, ordered a pair of the Labtecs and will post a review comparing them to some of the cans in my inventory. According to UPS, they should be delivered on Tuesday. As my custom title says, if they sound good, I'll wear them

But the Musical Fidelity X-CANS is a tube amp, isn't it? I tried all three pairs of the headphones with it and they all sounded superb.

The X-CAN is a hybrid tube/SS amp (it has a more SS sound than tube sound, IMO). It actually isn't a very good match with Grados, though. (I used to own v2.)

BTW, are you using an X-CANv1 or V2?

I just want to say a few more things as to why I made bold claims like "the quality of the Elite 840s easily surpasses any headphones under US$150". I always have strong belief (though it can be wrong) that the SR-125s are the best buy in this price range, but I found the Elite 840s even better, more neutral and analytic, and as involving. Maybe I should rephrase the the whole thing into "surpasses many headphones under US$150".

I think that would be a fairer statement. I, for one, think there are a number of headphones better than the SR125 under $150

To MacDEF: I am using X-cans v1, don't know how the v2 sounds. Is it much better? I am quite satisfied with the v1's sound. It's warm enough for me. Maybe my ears are less discerning than yours. :-)

And special thanks to Tim D, MacDEF, Temjin, KR...and a few more who have been so supportive and made me feel at home here.

Guys, you know you are so lucky. Imported headphones in Hong Kong are quite expensive, the HD-580 still costs HK$1680 (US$215) the lowest, the SR-125 more than HK$1200(US$150+), and the SR-225 is around HK$1800($230+)..........

dkswong,

dude, i'm sorry that I'm so mistrusting..... but, i dont think I can be any other way, you know? I mean, I'm losing my support from the other people on this forum too, and I know that, but I say what I think, you know? Don't take insult because of any of that, okay?

Gluegun,
You know I was quite shocked the moment I read your "questioning about my credentials", hahaha......
It's OK, folk, it's over. I am here to be a friend, not foe. You are actually not the first one who had such reaction, the same happened in Hong Kong newsgroups. And now we are good friends.
Hey, I got a better idea, why don't you mail me your pair of V6s so that I can listen to them and write a fairer review? LOL....

As soon as I can steal a pair from mom's work (she works at a TV station), I'll do it.

How about one that is half-broken and has a paper with "if you use this, please put it back where you found it! it's that simple! put it back!" written on it taped to the headband?

*grins*

Wai Dkswong, maybe we can be a good friend too ar! ahaha
How much did you pay your Elite 840 in Hong Kong? Also need to know where exactly did you get your headphone at (in HK)? I could call my cousins back there to get it for me and send it over to Australia. It's too expensive to get it over in US ah ma.

(Now this is only half of Chinese-based English language LOL)

Seriously, would like to know where exactly to get the headphone over in HK. Thanks!

I know you backed off, but I just have to mention this one:

A set of used CD1700s? Used?

lol, that's a little zealous too isn't it?

You do come on strong - to new guys like me, it's a little overwelming. I guess I/we just have to get used to your "style", I now know that you don't mean any harm...

Hi there, Temjin,
I got the Elite 840 for HK$238, that is around US$30. It's still an excellent buy though it's a bit more expensive than they are in the U.S. You can tell your cousin to look for them in Houston Crest, which sells computer accessories. I got mine from the branch on the second floor in the Star House near Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry.

Of course we are good friends. :-)

Ah thank you. Is there any online method to get them directly in Hong Kong? Just don't want to cause too much trouble to my cousins by asking them to go to a specific place personally to get the headphones.

I don't think there's any way to get the phones by online order in Hong Kong, sorry to tell you that. I think your cousin really needs to go out to get a pair. Mind you, they are very difficult to find now, since they sell so fast.
