Here is my usual setup:

Computer -> M-Audio 2496 Firewire -> WooAudio 3 (Tungsol 6as7, Siamen's CCa) -> MDR-CD3000.

I don't use M-Audio's built-in amp at all, since it gives me a headache when listening for more than 5 mins.

I also have a pair of Shure E5, but I don't use them often. In fact, haven't been using them for ages. I recently dug them up, and did some testing just now. They sound absolutely horrible in the WA3, sound almost like those phones you can get from HMV! My first thought was that maybe I am too used to CD3000, so after listening to these e5 for another hour, I moved to M-Audio's built-in amp. Wow! Sound stage open up, high and low comes back, though still nowhere near CD3000, but definitely sound much closer to how they intended to sound.

I have no problem accepting the fact that different amp match different phones will produce different result. But I am interested to know why, especially in this case. Any idea or hypothesis?
