I will be purchasing my first pair of headphones in the next couple of months. It will be the first pair of headphones I've bought in several years. I've used the search feature here combined with a good amount of study time on the internet and I find myself leaning toward the Audio-Technica ATH-A700s. They remind me of the headphones I owned in my teens, which were Pioneer, but I cannot remember the exact model number. I enjoyed that "closed off" sensation. My hope is that members here can give me a little insight as to what I can expect from this style of headphone versus other models. I listen to rock mostly, Deep Purple, RUSH, VH, etc...I will be using a Marantz CD player and Yamaha receiver as sources. Thank you.

Welcome to Head-Fi.

I listen mainly to the same music you do, usually at high volumes, and I often prefer closed headphones. I owned the ATH-A900 and would not recommend it or suggest the ATH-A700 for this type of music.

What is your budget for buying headphones?

Would you prefer a larger sound stage or a more close up presentation?
