A Question before I go for it: amped 555 vs 595 unamped

OK. I know this question was asked so many times in various situations. I read a lot of threads and reviews and ended up getting more confused. Let Grado and ATH aside because I'm too confused right now (my reason to not go for it is comfortable).

Here comes the question: Get 555, save $70, and get an amp/DAC later (maybe Total BitHead, and hope that by that time I am not looking for 650)

or

Get 595 and never look back again.

Thanks in advance.

PS. I need both amp and DAC (if I'll get one) since my i9300 is not a good source I think. And I use my PPC as my portable player so a portable amp will be more useful.)

i say make sure it's the 50 ohm version. a 120 ohm 555 sounds sluggish out of an unamped source.

I did that. I wasn't impressed with what the BitHead did for the HD555. The bass was more authoritative to be sure, but the treble was muddy (veiled?) to me. I sent it back. I really don't think the low impedance version of the HD555 benefits that much from amping. The headphone has great tone unamped, and just doesn't reward you with the PRaT you hope to add from amping. (I tried it with the MicroStack too. Still can't do justice to anything hard.)

IMHO get the 595 w/o amp... (make sure you get the 50ohms version) ... this way you get real good headphones suited for almost anything (source/music)...later you might get yourself a good amp and appropriate headphones

PS: i never listened to the 555 but imho the 595 ist great allrounder

Get the HD595 with an AMP and DAC. Or, if you want to save some time and money, go straight to the HD650 and an even better AMP and DAC. Go nuts - have fun!

Agree with the other posters, go for the 595. I have the 555, which I like a lot, but can't help wondering that I should have spent the extra $ and got the 595.

That's exactly what I paid for the HD595, also from shipdog.com. So, I hope it was a good deal. They delivered it pretty fast - in exactly 3 business days.

I concur, when I had the 555's, I kept wondering what the 595's were like, and when I finally upgraded, I got everything I wanted that was sort of missing in the 555's
