...several of the models (the highest end models only unfortunately) have optical outs. Does anybody know if optical out is active when playing MP3's?

dont the new sony's only play atrac and not mp3?
i know its not sony, but th iriver slimx 550's optical out can be activated while playing mp3's.

There are models that play only ATRAC and there are some that play both ATRAC and MP3.

I know the D-NE9 and D-NE1 play both MP3's and Atrac and Atrac3+ files.
