I use Foobar 0.9.6.1 and the plugin Wasapi for Windows Vista.
My DAC is the Musical Fidelity V-Dac, which takes 16 bits in entry with usb, then up-samples it to 32 bits (I think) before turning it into an analog signal.
I have set up everything proper as far as Windows is concerned.
Then comes Foobar. In Foobar's output preferences, I have set up:
- Buffer length at 800 ms (it works nicely up to1000 ms)
- Output data format: 16 bit
Then I have tried with or without Dither (slow).
Result: I find the sound slightly better with Dither.
Do you folks have similar impressions? Sound better with Dither on Foobar when output is 16 bits?
And do you think the fact that the V-Dac up-samples afterwards should change anything with respect to how useful it is to dither on Foobar?
