I was 14 and in high school when I started to listen to some of those late 80's/early 90's - mid 90's bands. I had a friend who worked at a music venue very close to my house and let me borrow The Cat and The Cobra from Les Savy Fav, which was one of those “never heard of them” type of bands to me at that time. I really enjoyed Les Savy Fav from the start and I wanted more. So, I figured the venue and my friend would be a good source to get to know more bands etc, and for shows of course! I started to become familiar with some record labels and just explore more and more. I was really interested in finding out similar bands from before or present.

I was pretty open minded about exploring different bands/genre's etc, although I could never really "get" Deerhoof and still kinda don't. I think some of the bands were definately an aquired taste, but a lot of them I just really loved from the first listen. I just find it interesting to hear the bands that some others were influenced by. At that time I was also into At The Drive-In, and while hearing earlier similar bands like them (Drive Like Jehu comes to mind in some occasions), they seemed to fit the puzzle influential wise, which is what I like to do when I like a certain band. So, curiosity is what pretty much kept me going.

As for Blonde Redhead, I enjoy both albums, but Misery Is A Butterfly still does it the most form me out of the albums I have. In An Expression of The Inexpressible is not too bad either, but I just feel that the songs on Misery Is A Butterfly are all worth a listen much more than the others. I can't really think of a track on that album that I don't like, and so I picked it for this thread.

It is pretty week if an artist's album has ANY bad songs. I feel that more often than not, i listen to albums as songs.

I have been pretty turned off to My Morning Jacket because their new album Z is so spotty. the first 3 tracks are so strong, and then the rest is just HORRIBLE.

to name a few recent artists who have put out great albums-

Sufjan Stevens
Arcade Fire

speaking of sufjan's Illinoise, my friend said "this album puts so many other albums to shame"

I can agree with that, I think it even made Greetings from Michigan look not as good.
