Very few people use Chaintech's drivers for the card, instead preferring to use drivers directly from VIA, the company that makes the card's chipset.

hence why i made a thread about possibly upgrading to a x-fi (I'm a gamer too)

oh there are vista drivers for the AV-710. It's just they are incomplete. I don't think VIA have enough money to put into a very old chipset that really isnt making that much money anymore

I think infinitesymphony is implying that the Vista drivers available for the AV710 are adequate for your purposes and that with some tweaking it can be made to do what you wish to do.

Infinitesymphony seems to be very knowledgeable about these things and I would take his advice. There is a lot of help available here to get you up and running if you have any issues that you cannot figure out on your own.
