I'm looking for a high-quality portable mp3/cd player which has the best sound quality? im considering the philips mp3/cd player and maybe the riovolt sp250. im open to other suggestions.

I own the Iriver2 MP3/CD player and I think it's really very good - be warned though - the Etymotic ER4P's will show up some line noise from the electronics - still sounds very good though. I think that at the moment this is the best hybrid MP3/CD player currently on the market.

yup -- either get the iriver2 or wait till mid december and get the iriver3. forget the sony and panasonic MP3/CD players -- they are already outdated.

I'd wait till mid December when IRiver will be releasing the IMP-350 (AKA SlimX) in the US. They haven't released a price for it, but they have released many pictures and specs for it. check it out at iriveramerica.com. It's only 1.67 cm thick!
