Infact, when I replaced the Nokia I had to buy a dedicated MP3 player (my last one broke, and the Nokia was more than good enough especialy when using it with the Line out option).

The Iphone and HTC have better interfaces, thats not to say the Nokia is bad, just a little simple and old tech being symbian.

So in my opinion, in terms of music Nokia>Iphone>HTC HD2

The iPhone 3Gs is meant to have much better SQ than the iPhone 2G.

I heard the blackberry with the letter back is an awesome source....whatever its called. I think it was te Blackberry 9**** series. The "bolds"...?
Anyone here about these?

My friend has a bold and I amped the headphone out via mini-to-mini with my pico, it sounded amazing for the techno he had on the phone at the moment.

Nokia N97 for high/mids, Ericsson Aion / W995 for Bass, iphone for balance (but high/mids not as good as N97 and bass not as good as Sony Ericsson). I am now using N97 for day to day listening and have a RSA Blackbird (N97 as source) in my office for listening in my office, using CK100 as my daily IEM and waiting for my UE18 Pro to arrive. I am interested to know how does the Nexus One sound like - anyone?

5800 has very bad stereo separation while iPhone has an excellent one!
I prefer iPhone over 5800. (I had them both).

I heard some great things about HD2's audio quality . Are you sure that it is bad??

The HD2 has a funked-up frequency response.

The N97 is okay. To my memory, I preferred the output of the N85. I prefer the iPhone 3GS greatly to both of them.

I despised the sound output of the Nokia N95, as well as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1.

I'm hoping good things for the XPERIA X10 -- I'm gonna be an early adopter of that unit (as I was with the N97, which I ended up trading for the 3GS).

I'm curious, why if the OP says the iPhone is out of his budget are ye suggesting phones that are equally as expensive?

Most of the phones I consider expensive in the states are dirt cheap in Europe with most providers. Conversely, the iPhone happens to be rather expensive over there.

I would think phones like the N97 would be free or close to it with a moderately loaded plan.
