Just got the Ultrasone HFI 650 and 2000 from the Ultrasone distributor here in Singapore, and I really like what I'm hearing. But given what I have at home - RS-1, HD 497, Philips HP890 - I'm not really getting fruitful comparisons, i.e. price/sound mismatch.

Any recs for a good A/B for these cans? (NB: I've already read Kelly's extenive review of closed phones which included the HFI650).

Thanks.

It's apparently a very new audio company called Aural Focus. The email contact is alvin@auralfocus.com. Currently, they carry only Ultrasone HFI 650 and 2000, but said they would be able to import more available models. That's all the info I got.

I forked out $265 for the HFI 650 and $278 for the HFI 2000. I think their prices are slightly lower than Meier Audio's. Still, it's a hefty sum, but it yielded pretty interesting listening experiences.

How about the Audio Technica A900s? They're closed, in the same general price range, and have been getting a good buzz around here.

I hope you like your new cans

El Scorcho:

If you're looking for phones to compare the Ultrasones to, you should probably look for other closed models...perhaps the Beyer DT831s or maybe the AKG 271S or 240S. The A900s Davie mentioned would be a good choice too.

how about a comparison between just the two? i know that they can't be as close, if not almost identical, as the K401 & K501 are.
