Oriolus recently unveiled their flagship retro music player, naming DPS-L2 which equipped with ES9038PRO decoding chip, and only limited to 999pcs for sales!

Before we step into the introduction, I would like to talk something else about this magical classic and retro player. I was deeply attracted by its look at the first glance. It reminded me of the cassette with recording, playing, and learning in childhood, and it was also the only bridge for me to keep my curiosity about the world.

Let's move into its parameters.

Highlight:
1. Sound performance has its own rich characteristics, that's undeniable!
2. The function of the whole button blindly realizes the pause, fast forward and backward as the cassette player.
3. The volume control is independent so that it has a sensitive response and the volume adjustment can be free.
4. Play dual 3.5mm out or 4.4mm out synchronously.
5. Non-touch screen, with button operation.
6. The HOTLINE button can help you obtain the information while listening to music without taking off the headphones.
... ... (Welcome to add)

I started to ponder about why it cost $2,199 and could be due to the housing being the real deal? The housing is probably from Sony themselves and Sony could only supply up to 999 of them or Oriolus could only afford up to 999. That's a large part of the costs, I guess.
Highly unlikely, I worked for Sony on entertainment segment, and as far as I know, the corporate culture of SONY, is no gonna put a dead weight loss on some discontinued old product in their production capacity for long, maybe some old service’s parts, but considering the product discontinued more than a decade ago, given internal control policy and rotable and spare parts accounting principles, it is likely even the service parts are not in their capacity, not even to mention fully depleted machinery and equipments. So highest chance is Intellectual Property blue print, second chance is unlicensed copy.

Theoretically, what would Sony sue them for?
Although the similarity is obvious, it does not write "WALKMAN" on the device

Design patent usually lasts for no more than 20 years. Sony’s original patent could well expire by now.

Well, at least that pink Edsel actually IS an Edsel (de gustibus....)

Both the Viewt (Mk 2 Jag wannabe based on a Nissan Micra) and the Sambar (guess what it’s trying to be) are pseudo-retro fakes!

I would love to own an Edsel. My Grandpa worked at Ford as a body engineer and knew Edsel Ford quite well. What a class act, a true gentleman. We asked Grandpa did you ever get to know Henry Ford. He said when Mr. Ford walked in the room you looked busy. He said Mr. Ford wouldn't really appreciate a "Wazzzuuup Hankster?"
