It's amazing how many folks preach that you must have an amp with the PK-1's. It may be dependent on your source, but I've had no trouble with ipods, iriver H1xx, and a cheap little no-name mp3 player.
They are meant to be amped...no question...but they are still a great buy when used alone as they'll still sound great. Better yet, if someday you decide to buy an amp, you'll re-discover them all over again.
