I have a pair of Beyer DT 880 and like them very much. On dedicated headphone amps they work just fine. However, on some sources [e.g. M-Audio FW Audiophile, a Behringer mixer, an intergrated amp] only the right ear speaker distorts at lower frequencies. This seems to occur for about three octaves around the note D (it fades and comes back a few times on a sweep).
When I take it to the retailer and try it on their quality equipment, there is no problem and hence no replacement. If I use it exclusively with my headphone amp, there is no problem. If I use it with non dedicated equipment, one side is good, one isn't. This does not seem right. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or experience with this?
Thanks in advance, I'm sad (and a little embarassed) to say, it is causing me much emotional grief.
