A balanced Alpha20 Heapdhone Amp? <Edited>

add a 120 ohm output impedance output Meier style. The DT880's like it ooh-so-very-much, and I think the HD600's do too.

Is this what you're talking about?

I've never heard of anyone doing this kind of setup.  I will certainly consider it, thank you for this tip.

Yes, on the Tips & Tricks page. Try a bunch of resistance values - 120ohms is "standard" but my amp has an output impedance of ~450ohms and everyone seems to love it with the HD800's

Cool, thanks nikongod.  Another region of the DIY realm I guess I have not yet explored/come across.  I suppose if I search around a bit, I'll come across some people who have recommended certain values for the 880 (which is primarily what I plan to use, for the time being).

I'm also reconsidering your earlier advice to build a regular M3 over a balanced configuration.  Partly, it would be a bit beyond my budget to buy a balanced source component (like headroom's UDAC), and I'm not really up for the challenge of building a balanced DAC myself right now.  Building my first amp will already be a good enough way to do some initial learning about DIY builds (which seems to be what you were implying in your earlier post).

A fully balanced configuration would make a good 2nd project  Hehehe...
