As per title.

Despite accumulating close to $700 (at current market value) worth of 6SN7s, I've decided it's time my wallet took a further beating.

I've already gone through Joe's Tube Lore over at AA, and from that I've made a few selections that are available to me at what I'd consider a fair(er) price for a tube I'm just getting into.

Listed below are the contenders I'm considering:

New Stock:
- Ei Elite Gold 6DJ8
- EH 6DJ8
- Sovtek 6DJ8
- JJ Tesla 6DJ8

NOS:
- JAN Sylvania 6922
- JAN Philips 6922
- Brimar 6DJ8 (non-gold pin, shield, black plates)
- Mullard 6DJ8 (non gold pin, shield, gray plates)

Let me know your ranking of the above tubes I've listed. Thanks!

You can pretty much cross off Sovtek 6DJ8/6922 unless you're into masochism. Similar comments about JAN Philips. Of your list, I tend to gravitate towards Mullard, but it's got its own problems.

I would look at Amperex 6DJ8/7308, Siemens E188C, CCA if you can afford them.

I suggest you forego the current productions. However, if you must, I'd only consider the JJ and Ei.

As for NOS tubes, here's my generalization:
Telefunken: thin, detailed, fast
Siemens: in between TFK above and Amperex below
Amperex: warm, full-bodied
Mullard: warm, laid back, soft at the extremes
Brimar: open, airy sound.

I don't like any of the later generation JAN 6922s. JAN Philips are essentially the same as JAN Sylvania (Philips ECG was formerly Sylvania).

hehe.. brimar as input and mullard as output tubes.. = best of both worlds?

The tesla are nicer than the JAN Phillips, I think, though with the latter much depends on the particular tube you've got.
I've had pretty good success with a couple of less expensive old RCA 7308...
