Why not? many amps have same kind of design, balanced output plus both balanced and unbalanced input.

Anyway, this amp looks really really nice. Quite stylish.

What kind of plane name is this amp referring to? All of the other models were referring to army plane names (B-52, the Apache...).

I vote that it is named after the A-10 Thunderbolt, not the A-10 Warthog.

Yeah, took me three hours of searching to find it :

I was wondering if Ray has add special things or cool stories to say about it.

Too bad my fiancee would cancel the marriage if she knew I had spent the $5k+ this is sure to cost on a headphone amplifier.

You'd be getting out cheap!

Congratulations Ray, on another fantastic project. I certainly hope this amp makes it to the next NY meet.

Something for me to strive for...

I have designed and built preamps with single ended input and balanced output. It isn't hard to do and works great. I use output transformers to do it.

Ray,

Is the preamp on this better than the preamp on the B52? I am mainly interested in the preamp capabilities of this amp.

Thanks.

unlike the B52 this one has a phase splitter and sends balanced signals from its XLR outs when SE inputs are selected. seems standard to so much other gear dating back into the 60's.

I don't understand what are you trying to say here...
In your first post you ask how is the SE signal converted to balanced, then you come with this reply to some else's question that has nothing to do with his question & try to explain or answer your own question in the previos post regarding the balanced output.

That sounds like that would be a good thing - no matter whether you select SE input or balanced XLR input, the preamp outputs balanced drive XLR to your amp. Is the 60's reference a knock on the A-10? I didn't understand.

EDIT - Okay I see Ray responded, confused as well.

right, it's not a fully balanced amplifier in the true sense of the term.

It is a full balanced ampliifier in the true sence of term & some more.
Please read my first post before reading some one else's theory & prediction.
