Ok most notebooks nowadays use a Intel High Definition Audio as the standard soundcard and it is pretty decent compared to the old AC97. But I watch a whole lot of movies and was wondering:

1) How much of an noticeable upgrade is the Indigo or Soundblaster compared to the standard Intel HD? For music but especially for movie watching.

2) Is the Indigo or Soundblaster better if using it strictly for movies?

thx

If it's a new notebook, you probably have vista. Echo Indigo does not play well with vista. Just a warning

It depends what kind of sound you're looking for, compared to Intel HD the Indigo can go MUCH louder and has slightly more clarity.

If you have a 5.1 setup you can connect it to Intel HD or SoundBlaster, the Indigo is only stereo. And since 5.1 is so critical to the movie experience and if you have a 5.1 setup, stick with Intel HD or a SoundBlaster.

However, if you plan on using headphones only (for movies and music), the Indigo is a noticeable improvement over Intel HD (I haven't compared to any SoundBlasters).
BTW, I got the Echo Indigo IO to run without problems on Vista.
