hello
i'm looking at purchasing some nimh 9v rechargeables for a portaphile v2. i've read a thread or two where thomas distributing (http://4cbradio.com/9v_nimh_batteries.htm) is mentioned as a good source for these batteries. there are a few "flavors" available - the 9.2v 200mah, 9.2v 250mah, and 9.6 175mah. sounds like the 9.2v can be charged out of a regular charger, whereas the 9.6v battery is recommended for a speacial charger made just for those batteries.
what do you guys think? would one of thesde batteries be perfect for my portable amp, or am i just as well off going down to my local store and picking up a couple ray-o-vac, energizer, or duracell rechargeables?
thanks!

Dunno mate- my forthcoming amp will have two PP3 support too. Highest capacity "standard" PP3 battery I've seen is 280mah (8.4v usual voltage though)

Looked into MAHA as wel, but going to cost quite a bit extra... £4 versus £10

I guess it depends if the circuit is fine with 16.8v starting voltage from fresh betteries (and still fine below that as the battery trails off) or really needs 18v from two 9.2v

I've no idea what set of battery specifications would be best for a portable amp. For my SR-71, I chose the Maha PowerEx 9.6 rechargeables and Maha MH-C490F charger because they're some of the best rechargeables and charger combo available... that's what I read, anyways.

sorry to burst in on your thread but I have a small question on the subject. Does using a battery over nine volts have an effect on sound or a negative effect on the life of your amp?

Regarding the voltage, I guess it must depends on the equipment right?

The PV2 can be used with a 24V DC with the backplate, so I doubt extra voltage would be harmful. Then again, I am pretty sure that most equipment are designed to have a certain tolerance above the specifications.. (Just to make sure that something that takes 9V won't fry with 9.6V).

For the Portaphile v.2 Cesar suggests the following: "My first choices there would be the 9.6V Maha Powerex and the 9.4V accupower."

This is from his website in describing the DC backplate: http://www.portaphile.com/backpanel.html

The additional voltage from these batteries should help the performance of the amp. I got a pair of the PowerEx to swap around and the MAHA MH-C490F Smart Charger.
