Anyone tried an 8CG7 in a PPX3 or MPX3-6GC7? I found a site saying that 8CG7 work just fine in a circuit designed for a 6CG7. Just curious...

It'll work, but it's not optimal. The 8CG7 is the 8 volt filament version of the 6CG7.

The distortion levels would probably be higher. You can try it if you want. 8CG7 tubes are inexpensive.

the tube and as stated your distortion will go up. you get cathode poisoning and for a seller to state that they swap just fine is ignorance or a lie. Anyway, they should be run within 5 % of the rated filament voltage, to work correctly.
