Thank you for the review, I have been following this thread with the hopes someone would actually try this thing.

Question for those in the know: how difficult is it to rig 220 in the states and what all is involved? Basically would it be worth it, as i understand it this product is not available in 110.

Well, I still did not return the DIYEDEN TUBE AMP to my friend. I came to like it too much.

I still love the "purist" approach. No volume potentiometer, all in one box and OUT of the PC enclosure, tubes, good components for the money, and it sounds good.

I had not much listening to it this last week, but I got a strong hum in the output. Turning On and Off did not help. After letting it cool down it got back to normal....until 15 minutes later.

This week it runs again as a champ, however I took it to a friend's workshop specialised in repairing TUBE Guitar amps. He said it did look nicely finished, but that the heat on the printboard and the capacitors would kill the machine.

So hands on the job. I've drilled quite a few holes on the upper box (the one that covers the R transformer), plus a few just on the cover on the area that top's the aluminium pasive cooling element inside the thing. I'll try to post a few pics.

The result however keeps short. The "beast" still runs hot. My friend said I should put the Tube's higher. Dam, that is just what I did like so much of the design.....having the tubes half-way IN the case!

So I will have to make with some parts at www.banzaieffects.com a "socket saver" for 8 pins. Getting the tubes entirely out of the case will probably solve the heat generation issue period. Actually I could have save myself the drilling cause it did help little.

Despite all, I don't think I did bad trying out this toy. It sounds nice and it has me engaged in upgrades. Isn't that the thing audiophiles love most

I have this baby at the office for a few weeks now and I still enjoy it quite a lot.

They are now feeding a pair of Ultrasone HFI-2200, wich are forcing the DIYEDEN to show other capabilities, like high tones and spatial feeling.

Not bad. I think that I got used to the set and are starting to show what most audiophiles suffer of: "you want more"

But this tube amp still shows a problem with heat. The summer arrived and the temperature only goes higher. The box is freeking hot to the touch.
And another issue has arised that I am not sure whether it is the DIYEDEN's fault or my city power supply or the laptop: hummm

After an hour, sometimes the thing's volume drops and you get the hummm, other times I can listen to it for 8 hours without a glitch. Turning off and on or unplugging the USB port helps. Other times, the hummm reappears quite quickly.

I have to experiment a bit more, maybe it is just the laptops fault. With no proper grounding it might be it freaks the DIYEDEN trough the USB.

Still,....cool these tubes

. My feet still tap to the music.

Fellas, good news. The noise in the sound was caused by the USB link.

Yeah, the USB. Maybe the laptop, maybe windows, don't know....but it is just a matter of unplugging and repluging the USB to restore normal operation.

I've to test it with my home PC, maybe it is a fault of the laptop.

All those chinese pages take too long to load. Okay, maybe I'm impatient, waiting 10 minutes (after setting custom network.http.keepalive parameter in firefox's about:config) ?
