I agree this likely is not a fair comparison but it is illuminating. I recently acquired a decent set of phones that can be driven to acceptable levels by the IPOD or ITouch, ATH-EW9s. The difference between running the phones direct ITouch -> EW9s vs the IPOD -> P51 -> EW9s is stunning. This ends for me all the arguments some folks try to make that portable amps are a waste of money. The direct to phones route is noise, IPOD to P51 to phones is music!

It's funny, because I've had the complete opposite experience with a pair of ES7 using an iPod Classic 160gb, iPod Touch 2nd Gen and a Predator Amp...

The ES7, straight into the iTouch, sounds way better (both together make a great synergy, I guess) than the Classic -> Predator -> ES7.

The Predator is a fantastic amp, but the iTouch rendered it a bit useless for me. But then, as I suspected before, I might not be as much of an audiophile as I thought I was in the first place
