you kidding me? tourism wasn't hurt even when the disaster DID hit. i just read that the beaches are filling up with tourists again, only a week after people died on those very beaches.

I don't know exactly how to put a correct value on money and life.
I'm living modestly by North American standards, but I consider myself to be in the lap of luxury by international standards.

Maybe it's part cultural? There are only 35 million Canadians.

Wow eyeteeth, that's $2 per every Canadian. Always good to have a nice neighbor! Truly touching effort by Canadians. Obviously there's no money value to put on the deceased. However, this reconstruction will take years and years. Every penny will count in long-term effort.

I didn't vote for this Australian Prime Minister because I don't agree with his party's policies but this seems pretty good to me and quite out of character:
