I've had the Swan M10's for about three years and love them. From what I understand they're much easier to acquire these days and are right in your budget. Though to be fair, the "sub" isn't really a sub per se but nonetheless still delivers decent bass.

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 would be worth considering as well. However, it also has the power button on the back of the subwoofer. The reason for this is that in 2.1 speaker sets like these, the amplifier is built into the subwoofer, and not a good idea for the main power to also be routed to one of the speakers. There are volume and tone controls on one of the speakers.

While I understand is not withing your budget... It is worth while to mention that the Corsair SP2500 are an excellent 2.1 set... I have been very impress with them
