I am looking for the best price/performance headphones. I am not necessarily looking for the best sounding ones, but the best sound I can get for the money. In terms of music, I will listen to a wide variety, so a set of cans that do well under those conditions will be best. The headphones will be powered by my Zero DAC/AMP, and receive a bit perfect stream from my PC via Foobar2000. I have listened to only one of these headphones, and don't really have any means to listen to the rest any time soon. So any tips, reviews or suggestions you guys have will be appreciated. I really want to order by Thursday.

beyerdynamic DT 250-250
beyerdynamic DT 880
AKG K 240 MK II
Sennheiser hd595
BeyerDynamic DT 860
Audio-Technica ATH-A900
Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 Air Headphones

on that list, if you dont need a lot of bass and dont need isolation, the AD700 looks good

the K240 is decent (from listening to some folks around here)

I haven't listened to the other Beyers beside the DT880 in that list. Out of the remaining, the DT880 and AD700 stand out.

A900 sounds fine but overpriced compared to the competition. DT880 has a reference level clarity and will do decently out of your Zero, although not to their real potential. AD700 is always a good choice, as long as you're not picky about your bass. The K240 studio, which is supposedly not that different from the mk2 has a very pleasant bassy but a little unrefined sound. I will only buy it if it's less than $70.

Thanks for the info. I listened to the AD700's and they had more then enough bass for me. Maybe it's because I have never heard a really good pair of cans that have good bass.

The A900's are by no means overpriced. Look on ebay and you can get a pair straight from Japan for a great price, although i have never tried the AD700's i would recommend the A900's

I still think they are a little overpriced given the competition. D2000 can be had in the U.S. for <$200. And the HD650, HD600, DT880, K701 are sometimes awfully close to $200.

When those cans were much more expensive, the A900 was a decent value.

Usually the winner in the price/performance wars are the Beyer DT770/80's - great little cans, very comfy and ... well should we say loadsa bass!

Because he is going to power a pair of headphones via his Zero/DAC id maybe look at the DT880's.

Since i live in Aus i bought my pair of A900's when the exchange rate was awesome. Only cost me $180 delivered from Japan, which is still an exceptional price i must say
