Hello,

I'm currently using a pair of Jan-Philips 6DJ8 tubes, and I'm finding that the low end performance is not up to par (looking for more bass), and it's a bit harsh/sterile. I'm thinking of getting a pair of Amperex White Label PQ 6922 (Made in USA, gold pin) -- any thoughts?

I'm also considering Mullard and Siemens E88CC.

Thanks.

I'm using some Amperex 6DJ8 tubes made in Japan which I think are Matsu****a's.

As for sound, I feel that they have a better "grip" on the music than the UK made RCA's that drarthurwells recommended. They DO have a wider soundstage, the dynamics are more dynamic, bass seems to be a bit tighter and definately deeper, the midrange is full and natural, and the treble is still smooth, crisp and extended.

The 6H23-EB looks very interesting. I hate to be a bother, but can you elaborate on the (other) differences versus the Jan-Philips (which is stock with the X-CAN)?

Thanks!

The Electro-Harmonix 6922's have terrific bass, IMO. They're not expensive or "chic", but they are smooth, and have very extended bass.

For more bass get the Russian 6H23-EB. When I installed them on my Musical Fidelity it tightened the bass and made it punchier as well as more of it.

Ditto!
