Hi guys, as the title suggests, what is the difference really between powered vs non-powered subwoofers?
 
I get the main reason of built in amplifiers, but is there much difference in sound if they are powered or not?
 
The main reason i ask is, found a couple on ebay (and yes i do need one - hahaha) and while poth lay in my price range, just wondering if its better to pay extra for a 'more powerful' non-powered sub.
I do only use this in a small bedroom, but i want a sub for rare occassions where i can turn it up and get some good bass shake happening

The watts don't mean much unless you know the driver sensitivity rating for 1watt @ 1 metre , with small speakers its normally better to go with a seperate amp rather than a tiny amp built into the back of a speaker cabinet which also limits the acoustics of the cabinet , because subs use large drivers and cabinets normally a quite decent amp can be built into the back without affecting the acoustics too much.
