6.3 to 3.5 adapter

The 3.5mm jack on my Sennheiser 558's broke off in my computer the other day, it had always seemed like it fit too loosely in the jack, as if it weren't quite a 3.5. Anyways, I was hoping that someone here knew of a good cable I could use to replace the old one with, I believe it's a 2.5 to 6.3mm cable, but I'd rather avoid the hassle of using and adapter when listening to my Ipod, so I'm looking for a 2.5 to 3.5mm cable. Alternatively I suppose a very unintrusive 6.3 to 3.5 adapter would work. My search has gotten me nowhere so now I'm stuck with the possibly fake Dre Beats my parents got me for Christmas....

Sennheiser HD558s come with a stereo (2-channel) 1/4" (6.35mm) jack at the end of the headphone cable and ship with a 1/4" (female) jack to a male mini-jack 1/8" (3.5mm) adapter.
The end that goes into the headphone is a 2.5mm tri-channel jack.
Can you pull the 1/4" (female) to1/8" (male) adapter off the end of the cable?

Yes, the part that broke is the very tip of the 1/8" jack.

The 1/8" tip broke off the adapter?
So you should be able to pulled the adapter off the end of the cable showing the standard 1/4" jack?

I'm a bit confused here. Why wouldn't you just pick up a 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter from radioshack (or your choice of store), plug it onto your existing cable and call it a day? Am I missing something here?

Sure, if you want all that extra weight on the 3.5mm female jack of whatever he decides to plug it into.  Since they are usually PCB-mount female jacks, you can rest assured that they are somewhat delicate.
It would be better to try a cable adapter like this one, or build his own.  The stock adapter should have been a cable one like the one included with HD650.

Certainly an even better option.

Exactly right, the solid adapter is just way too clunky for me to comfortable have it plugged into my ipod. That cable adapter looks nice though, thanks for the link!
