Anyone give the M500 try? Price seems right. Audible and bookmarking support. Rio is mentioned. Are they the manufacturer?

EDIT: A little more info here.

Anyone feel like going to a Radio Shack to try it out? I know that they sell them, and most stores will have a functioning unit on display. But that price seems a little to good to be true, retail is $229.

At least one other place has it close, but yeah $229 seems the standard. Found it on DealMac.com.

Screen sure looks Rio-like. Poor mans Karma? Well, the Karma is probably a poor mans Karma.

wow. even before seeing that interface screen i already thought it was incorporating the karma design. more advance than karma, it can record and play radio.

the price is very good, but i really hate the karma music navigation and playing system with all my gut. if it can do genre->artist->alblum->song and can play keep playing songs instead of just songs from the playlist then its probably a winner.

From the above review- "Moto includes their Motorola Music Manager software with the player, but we didn’t even bother installing it since it’s possible to just drag-and-drop files onto the M500 over USB 2.0 "

Looks like ipod Mini meets Rio Carbon to me - very cool, though an ugly color. If it's a good unit, it could really bring similar players' sales down seeing how cheap it is.

edit: Website says it's 1.4 inches thick... what the heck??

What scares me about this player are the comments on engadget. Do a search on google for this player, and you'll come across the engadget blog. The comments start off as excitement to try the product, general satisfaction after trying the product, and then a flood of negative comments concerning latent defects.

Which website? All the ones I'm looking at (from the first post) say .7".

This is essentially a Rio Carbon with an FM tuner and removable battery. And a one year warranty, as I recall. Wonder if they'll release an equivalent of the new Carbon firmware for it.
