Ok, i like the styling of the 600 more (the headband) i can get the grills for the 600 and put it on the 580, but i want to be assured that ill get the similar sound if i attach a 650 cable to either of the cans. I want the 600 but it just might be outa my price range so i was considering a 580 hybrid with 600 grills and a 650 cable. Any thoughts. I am going to get a Go-Vibe V4 if you need to know the amp.

I'm sure alot of people are going to say just get the 580 and get the grills and cable.

But I'm going to say get the 600's and the cable.

Well, you can see from my sig what I'd suggest you do.

I don't like the 600s marble effect and the stock grill on the 580s looks horrid to me, so...

Can you buy the 600 grills anywhere now, Sennheiser ain't selling them anymore.

edit: oooh, I just noticed there are different versions of the 580. Chri5peed's has the label inside a little box, while mine doesn't have any sort of frame around the label.

and yes, HD650 grills do fit the HD600 and HD580. All 3 headphones have interchangeable parts.

i was gona go to the FS forum and ask around for some 600 grills or a whole 580 with 600 grills and just buy the 650 cable from the sennheiser site for not too much.

The grills for the 600 and 650 look exactly alike. So, have they stopped selling the 650 grills as well? Is it simply because so many people were buying them for their 580's?

I have a pair of 580's I have cared for lovingly for more years than I can count. The addition of the HD600 grills made a subtle improvement. The addition of the HD650 cable (purchased from Sennheiser) made a more pronounced improvement.

Go for the 580s. Unless you REALLY like the 600s. But they're the same cans.

Get the HD600. I owned both at the same time for over a year, and the HD600 definitely sounds cleaner and has better dynamics. HD580 is more colored (and maybe more "fun") but less correct.

Since they are essentially the same headphone, do you attribute that simply to the different grills and different cable?

I personally can't hear a difference between the two. That having been said, I'll probably be selling my HD580s soon because I prefer the look of the HD600s (that and maybe with better equipment a difference would come out). Isn't the price difference only about $30-40 when both new anyways? Maybe even less?
