i recently bought a pair of 555's for the comp, but they seem to be seriously lacking in terms of bass? i tried tweaking the EQ in winamp but i can't seem to find a desirable setting. any ideas to help boost some bass? thanks

Wait it out, let them burn in. The bass on my HD595s took quite some time to fully flesh out. Just find some nice bass-heavy music, crank the volume a bit, and leave them sitting on repeat for a few days.

I know (by personal experience, also) that computer soundcards often lack bass, at least when driving a headphone directly without external amps.

I think it must be your soundcard. When I first got my 555's, the bass was bloated and excessive on a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz -> Yamaha receiver. After burn-in it became much less paunchy and more punchy.

I had a similar experience, after ~100hours the bass from my 555s were much improved.
