Wow, it's been a while since I've been looking at IEM's. Now that I have a new touch pro 2 with a 3.5mm jack that actually sounds GREAT, I want to upgrade my super.fi pro 5's.

Now back when I was into the headphone game, good customs started around $650. I've read some threads here with people recommending $400-500 customs from companies that I've never heard of. Have things really changed that much? Are these $500 customs truly worth looking at vs. a good universal fit?

If so, what should I be looking at?

My dream sound is Grado RS-1's out of a Melos amplifier. The music I listen to is rock, classical, and jazz. I like a lively midrange, punchy and powerful (but not bloated) bass, and a sweet and NOT SIBILANT high end.

Quite simply, which customs should I be looking at to get the "grado" sound for around $500?

Livewires have been described as very Grado-ish.
