Today I finished my 40 year old Kontakt/Lafayette amp.
It's a single ended classe A tube amp.
I totally tweaked the amp.I got rid of the tone adjustment, balance and source buttons.
A Noble volume pot meter is installed, blackgate and Audio Note capacitors have replaced the old ones.New RCA and Neutrik headphone connectors. Most of the stuff is silver wired.
I rewired the amp last week, and the difference is very noticeble.
Frontpanel and volumeknob made at work :)
It has Philips EL84's and a Golden Dragon E83CC-01 tubes.
Goes along with a Cambridge Audio Azur 640 and a HD 650.

Anyone has suggestions for different tubes that match the 650?Not really a tube expert myself.
It already sounds amazingly good, but maybe there can be some improvement.
Going to make some silver wired interconnects in the future, and maybe....try some different headphonecables.Which are recommended with this setup?

I think the volume knob needs to be BIGGER.

How does it sound, "Golden Age-y"?

Right now, listening to :"Leftfield, leftism".Can't stop smiling...

And bigger is better,it's easier to reach from my listening position

Very nice work, cool oldy...

Not sure which one are output ones, ECC83 I guess, but both offers you almost identical brands, such as Siemens, Telefunkens, Sylvania and Amperex Holland made, which are the best you can get, in general.

Very nice work! Looks great!

EL84's are pretty "tubey" sounding usually, and the 650's are warmish as they are. I suggest getting some Sylvania black-plate (NOT grey-plate) 6BQ5's - these will probably be a very nice match with the 650's.

What no jokes / comments on a 40 year "burn-in"? I second the comment on increasing the size of the volume knob. Perhaps a steering wheel could be substituted. :-D

Nice Amp.

Maybe you could make the volume knob out of one of the 650's earcups? Lol...

Or maybe look on ebay for a deal on a used Ferris Wheel.
