To me, the 780's are the ones to get for EDM. It's a largely V shape sound, unlike the X's.I've been debating whether to give Ultrasone another try but I'm unsure which headphone that would be, I've only tried Signature DJ and currently have the Signature X that I picked up on launch but haven't really used it that much. The thing I like with Ultrasones is they are one of the few headphone manufacturers that get the bass aspect right, for someone who is listening to EDM style music (Euphoric Hardstyle to be exact) they are some of the few that can get the punchiness and impact etc right, as much as I for example appreciate the soundstaging and imaging, the mids and highs on FiiO FT1 or FT1 Pro, the bass isn't quite there. The FT1 closed can get close to where I want it to be in terms of how it is felt to the ears/skin but to get there it needs help of my portable DigiZoid ZO 32-step adjustable bass boost on maybe lvl 8 - 10 or so which should be around a 6~6.5dB boost I think (I also give it like 2.5dB boost in the midbass to counter so it doesn't sound too subbass'y). It's slightly bassier then than I'd ideally want but it has to be done to get you really feel the impact of the bass. The Signature X like my M-Audio Q40 it will barely need any boost to get there.
The soundstaging has never worked well for me on Ultrasones though, it's kind of in-your-head and small, I wonder if all Ultrasones are equal here or for example the Masters do a significantly better job. Personally I've always had better results with vented designs so it's not fully closed. Most (if not all) Ultrasones seems to be fully closed as I can tell. The Signature X has a slight upper-mid - lower-highs resonating frequency, seems to help reducing 6.6kHz or thereabouts a bit, usually I'm pretty allergic to resonating frequencies, for example FiiO FT1 and M-Audio Q40 has none of that. On the RME ADI-2 DAC fs I currently use this setting to get it to my ears better balanced sounding minus the bass then where I want it to be strong:

Very fun but also tight bass, and sparkly highs. I also find them perfect signature for gaming. Doesn't hurt that I got my pair for under $100. The sound is tight on them but they are impactful.
And yes, Ultrasone gets headphone bass. I don't know what they do special with the drivers but they can purr and growl at you. I always used to hear people comment on things like TH900's and various planars and then I would go back to any Ultrasones in my collection and be like yeah, no.
