So I'm a little confused. I have a 5 ring headphone jack and have been unable to find out what they are all for. As far as I was aware the most rings is 4.

I have tried to plug it into my macbook air and get a terrible tinny sound. It is however all good when plugged into my phone.

I was hoping someone here could explain this to me, and if able to advise me how to use them on the macbook, fantastic.

Hi Mik,

As far as I understand but from what I've been able to find out, 5 rings or 5 pole as it's more commonly called generally refer to power on a 3.5mm jack.

Specifically to the Sony MDR-NC750 headphones, this is what supports their noise cancelling & Hi Res Audio signals but I would have to be one of their engineers, which I am not, to be sure.

According to Sony's blog & support team, unless you have following :

Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium

Then your headphones will not work with any other device which is not the above.

So unless someone makes a compatible device or adapter connector which isn't Sony then all you can use them for is as above.

Hope this helps...
