So I've done some research and apparently the only way to do this is to install the rockbox firmware - which doesn't work on the 4G nano. Can someone confirm if rockbox does allow you to put files of this quality on a supported ipod model?

Anyone have any idea on if/when rockbox will support the new nano?

I'm willing to bet that rockbox won't be supported on the new models for many years, if ever. It's my understanding that the firmware and bootloader are very well encrypted and/or hidden.

the cowon O2 is the only player I know of that can handle 24bit/96khz out of the box
