Hi,

I have a lot of audio that is 24 bit, but my keces DAC only supports 16bit so I'm outputting to 16 bit... does this affect sound quality in any way? Would it be better to play audio that was originally 16 bit than 24 bit?

For example:

Pink Floyd DSotM 24 bit --> keces DAC 16 bit
vs
Pink FLoyd DSotM 16 bit --> keces DAC 16 bit

Any difference?

You could have foobar apply dithering in the output preference pane...

Select 16-bit output and check dithering when playing a higher bit depth.

Yep, I agree with that too. I suspect you won't be able to tell much difference between the 24 bit dithered down to 16 bit, and the original 24 bit, but people here will probably disagree

Dithering will take up a little bit of your CPU depending on how complex the dithering algorithm is; I think foobar has an Ultra mode which will do this, but it will dither at better quality. If you aren't already, you should be using Asio4All (Windows XP) or WSAPI (Vista)

There's an ultra mode for dithering? I only see an "ultra" setting for foobar's included PPHS resampler.
