24 awg silver wire for ground on XLR interconnects?

No it would be fine, remember these are very low current applications. I've never had a cable start getting warm even when using 26-28awg wire on interconnects.

Though for balanced XLR interconnects I personally beleive the silver wire is a waste. The nature of a balanced cable makes the wire and connectors not that important to the quality of the signal. That's my understanding anyway.
