[2021 Update] Venture Electronics (VE) Monk V2, Monk Plus & Monk Go: a $5 earbud that taking the world by storm!!!

So for the fun of it, and a minor fitting issue I have on my right ear with the right earbud, I decided to get me some yurbuds covers and try them on the Monks. Has anyone tried this?
They fit just well and I can say they stay in place however I move my head or pull on the cable. It's hard for me to say if sound quality or signature is altered in any way, but volume increased a lot as sound is directed right towards the ear canal.

Wouldn't that make them sound more closed? Looks like they're covering the little ports on the back.

They're not fully covering the ports. I think, to me, they sound like as if you were to push the earbuds in against your ear with your fingers creating somewhat a "seal" (with full foams).
It's hard for me to compare them without these covers against the full foam covers. It's a pain to remove and replace both covers on one pair of Monks.
I'm waiting to get my hands on a second pair.

Dont you think that using that kind of fit will reduce the soundstage?

This would be nice if the sound quality of the monk doesn't change.

I got mine in over the weekend, been listening non-stop at work with them.

Love the sound, but they hurt my ears so much. I can't find a single orientation where the monks even feel the least bit comfortable. At the moment I have resorted to very gently placing them in my ear, if i try to create a solid seal my ear will start to throb after 30ish minutes (in every normal listening position)...

Anyone else experiencing this?

In the beginning mine hurt like hell as well. By now I either place them gently in my ears when I'm in a relatively quiet room, and I don't feel like I'm missing too much. When I'm in a noisy room or on the train I tend to jam them in there really hard, when I do that it tends to only hurt once I take them back out. I'm fairly sure the pain will start to go away once I either find some softer covers or once my ears get used to having earbuds in them again.

Agreed - I'd be worried about it affecting the sound, there is nothing quite like the Monk in IEM format.

And for $50 you can get Music Maker MrZ Tomahawk, which is like an improved Monk in just about every area (perhaps except for size of soundstage, where Monk wins). And then there's newer ones around or over $100, such as Ostry KC98, Shozy Cygnus, Music Maker Ting etc...

For an old earbud fanatic such as me it's great to see the hype around Monk after many years of practically nothing new in the earbud world. I hope you all look up on other newer earbuds as well!
