2010 - Your Favorite New Releases So Far?
Dec 28, 2010 at 1:40 PM Post #136 of 149
There's less than a week to go so I guess it's safe to name the "best" of 2010.

In no particular order : Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
                               The National - High Violet
                               The Hidden Cameras - Origin:Orphan
Angus & Julia Stone - Down The Way
Phosphorescent - Here's To Taking It Easy
Rumer - Seasons Of My Soul
                               Robyn - Body Talk Pt.3
                               Royksopp - Senior
                               Kanye West - MBDTF

If Adele's new album, 19, had made it I've no doubt it would make this list. I have high hopes for her.

There's a couple of stand-out albums that were released in 2009 but it's taken me this long to get around to them.

In no particular order : Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career
                               The Antlers - Hospice

It always makes me laugh when people say - particularly people of my generation (45) - "there's no good music any more. The music in the charts is s**t!" They need to dig deeper!

I think the new music scene has never been more vibrant and I look forward to see what 2011 brings.

Senior is propably the biggest disappointement for me this year, it's quite funny how tastes can differ.

It's a fair point. Royksopp are a band who can't seem to live up to their first album and so I believe expectations are artificially high. On Senior they reference Mike Oldfield which is good enough for me, lol.

Totally agree.  I am similar age and when I installed some upgraded equipment lately, my good friend immediately asked if I had blasted Led Zeppelin and AC/DC on the new system yet.  Legendary bands, yes.  But I held my tongue and did not respond that, actually, the CDs I am playing to test my system are my favorite CDs of 2010, not 1979.   So here is my end of year list, no particular order except Broken Bells, which is my #1 pick of year.

Broken Bells - Broken Bells
Black Keys - Brothers
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Massive Attack - Heligoland
School of Seven Bells - Disconnect from Desire
Villagers -- Becoming a Jackal
Vampire Weekend -- Contra
Levi's Pioneer Sessions 2010 Revival Recordings (various artists)

Honorable Mention:
Kate Nash - My Best Friend is You
Eels - End Times
Daft Punk - Tron: Legacy (great atmospheric soundtrack)

I really dug the Scuba album too.  I kept going back to it many times this year.  In a time where I have so much music, for me to seek something out to listent to it (completely), is amazing.

XP - guess 2010 was the wrong thread. I originally didn't put my list on this one because there's usually some difference between the albums you like mid-year and what you decide on after some re-listening and thinking at the end of the year.
