2004 Summer OLYMPICS thread ...

Oh, boy!

Lithuania beats Puerto Rico 98 to 90.

They were incredibly good from 3 point range: 16 of 30 (53%)! That's the key for a gold or silver medal in basketball! Team USA, in contrast, is shooting just 12% from 3 point range.

Lithuania is really good! At the Sydney Olympics, USA beat Lithuania by just 2 points (85 to 83). And, of course, basketball crazy Lithuania was the 2003 European Champion. So that's the team to watch.

Here's the stats for that game...

For Puerto Rico, guards Carlos Arroyo and Elias Ayuso each had 25 points. Not enough! &#@$&

The best place to follow the Olympics is NBC. Here's the link...

Weird and unlikely alliances pop up in sports every once in a while. How about this one? Rock-band The Grateful Dead and Lithuania's Olympic Basketball Team! Here's the jist of it: Grateful Dead Merchandizing helped raise money to send Lithuania's B-team to the Barcelona Olympics. They sold tie-dyed T-Shirts to raise money.

Puerto Rico's Yao Ming...
Peter John Ramos is just a youngster at the olympics, but he is 7'-3"! He helped Puerto Rico win a Gold Medal at the Under 21 world basketball tournament held in Canada a few months ago! Not bad!

Boy, KR! You are really sharp! That's right: Peter John Ramos is 18 going on 19!

PR's national basketball team found this poverty-striken youngster in Spanish Harlem (NYC), and they brought him to PR to teach him how to play basketball, etc. So far, so good. He is learning the ropes. Right now, NBA scouts are watching him and making $$$ offers. Good for him!

The coaches are pretty good; it is some of the players who are lazy bums.
