I received my W1 today from Micca and tried it on both USB(connected to PC as USB audio card) and RCA input connected to Karaoke machine. The unit is pretty impressive. The latency is up to spec. But I hit one issue trying to hook it up still on RCA input but the source is from the headphone jack on my PC. In this scenario the sound coming out of the receiver was VERY low. I had to increase the volume on my receiver very high to hear anything. So this scenario(which is my main use for this unit) did not work well. Is there a workaround for this. I'm using a "Monster MusicConnect Portable Audio Player to Stereo Cable - 2 meter Cable (1/8 Inch stereo mini plug to RCAs)" to connect, I tried another cable I had, thinking it might be a bad cable, but with the same results. Anybody else tried this scenario?

I also tried the Digital In port on the WT1 and it has the same low volume issue. Has anybody tried the Digital In port on this? My guess is the Analog stuff works well  but the Digital doesn't seem to work all that well. Maybe I have a deffective unit. I tried to contact the US supplier(Micca) to arrange a replacement but haven't heard back yet. I'll contact Amazon next since they also carry this unit but for a higher price...

The W1 is not only a wireless transmitter, it also provides DAC capability for digital audio inputs via the USB. But the W1 only has a DAC. There is no amplifier for the signal so if you are using a digital signal transmitted over the W1, the signal is converted to analog audio that requires an external amplifier in order to hear the signal. This isn't a defect. It's just not clear to users since there's little documentation. Frankly I was surprised to get DAC-capability for the price of the W1! And I prefer to use my own amplifier since I'd have wanted to do that anyway.
 
BTW, does anyone know what DAC chip is used inside the W1? To my ears it sounds like the Wolfson...

  It works very well....    presently I have the transmitter hooked up to a OPPO player and it sounds great.
 
Both units ( transmitter/receiver) are smaller than the pic's show and seem to be very well built...
 
I'm using it as a portable wireless headphone driver...  both units require power via a USB port... 
it comes with a USB wallwart but I wanted more portability so I'm using a Mophie hooked to the receiver
and I can carry it around the house while listening to my phones... so its like taking your favorite headphone
and turning them into a wireless headphone...  works great for that....
 
I'm sure there are many different uses for this product...  it does exactly what I wanted it to do now.... 
 
I'd like to get an extra receiver though so I can set up a second pair for the wife to use too...

Hey, I've been trying to hook up a portable battery to my W1 receiver but I haven't had any luck yet. I actually tried the E18 on battery mode and it didn't work at all for the W1. I also tried an Anker on both the 1A and the 2A ports but either one would only run the receiver for about 15 seconds before powering off. The receiver works off of the AC adapter but I wanted to make it portable. If you or someone else has some idea of what I'm doing wrong here or what I might try, I'd be grateful for your help. I've tried doing a search on the subject and haven't seen anything except your post. It seems like FIIO is leaving advertising for the W1 to word of mouth, which is really unfortunate because their product is really amazing for the price.
 
One really neat thing is that you can take the USB audio off your PC and run it through whatever DAC you have and then feed the line out to the W1 transmitter, giving you a really nice audio signal to feed your amplifier or speakers off the W1 receiver. There's lots of potential there. After all it transmits 24 bit audio. Now if only I can figure out how to make the receiver portable...

For the battery to power the W1 I've been using the Mophie USB battery...   and I'm using the O2 amp that has its own battery setup inside... .  it works fine this way...

I wanted to commend you on a great solution - I really need this to hook to high quality audio gear without the wires to please room aesthetics and the wife!
 
I've ordered 2 units, from Sonic Electronix as I need 2 receivers, wasteful but I needed another option as KEF Wireless is double buying 2 of these kits!!
 
Plus the KEF has no RCA output and I need that for Class A/B Amp's I have powering the rears, the KEF in-built Amps are weak and likely class-D or T
 
I'm really hoping 1) it's loss-less as advertised, 2) no background noise or so low my amp's are that much more transparent and 3) minimal latency <20ms to minimize audio delay and retain 5.1/7.1 3d dimensional playback.
 
I'll report my findings once I hook up and test.

Is it possible on the W1 to bypass its DAC?

I would like to output SPDIF from the receiver to my own DAC, such as the E17, for example.

I am unsure if I saw any digital output from the pictures inline if the receiver.

 You should contact FIIO's tech support. They're very helpful & can answer your questions. The W1 is a nice product. I've seen them still for sale at a few places but nobody seems to be talking about them much.
