I am looking for a 2.1 set of computer speakers for listening to music (not gaming) between £50-£100 (in the UK).

OK two other questions:
 
a) What do you guys think of these? They seem to have pretty good reviews and one has an amp included.

b) I have an old amp lying around, would 'bookshelf' style speakers give a better overall sound, if used with an amp?

What sort of amp do u have? If u can get hold of bargains online and if amp is working why not? Prolly hunt for 6-8 ohm speakers

the Edifiers will only be very good if you are living among the asian side of the world.
any further away would turn the Edifier speakers into costly china speakers
 
if I were to recommend Edifier speakers it would always be
