I'm thinking of moving onto a newer player like the Zen or D2, perhaps a Sony, but is the 1st gen Shuffle still considered "good" unamped? I've been reluctant to replace it because other iPods that I've tried (Classic, 2nd Shuffle, and Nano) are clearly inferior, IMO.

How does the D2 or a current Sony sound (unamped and not EQ-ed) compared to the Shuffle?

The only thing your going to ask yourself is why you waited so long - that should be all you need to know.
